Benson / Tombstone, AZ (take 2)

Nothing portrays the grit of the 1880s quest for silver in the Wild West, quite like Tombstone.

"Mom, why do all these places have pictures of naked ladies?"

"Son, since the beginning of time, men have appreciated the female figure... Oh look, an ice cream store!"

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Convenience. Want to visit Tombstone? 30 min. Bisbee? 45 min. Tucson? 1 hour.

  • Day Trip Ideas: See above ;)

    • EL DORADO STABLES: If you’re looking for a swanky yet rustic overnight getaway - you must check out this upscale Tucson hot spot. The casita is situated on a 5 acre ranch. The owners are genuinely the kindest family, who give guests access to the resort style pool and backyard. Want to sip coffee while chatting with horses / goats / or the sweetest donkeys? This is your jam.

  • In the area:

    • The Arena Bar - I’m still recovering. The locals are the best. Please say hi to Diane and Diane, as my hub has coined “The Double D’s”. If country music, politically incorrect conversations, and cursing like a sailor are your thing - you’ll LOVE this rodeo bar.

    • Benson Donuts - Kids and hub swear these are the BEST donuts they’ve ever had.

    • Double R Ranch - My In-Laws came to visit, and stayed at the most adorable cottage on site. Owners have 60,000 acres and run a horse riding biz. Sunset ride reminds you of the tranquil, yet eerily quiet Southwest desert. Ron the owner is a character - bring your sarcasm - and don’t take offense to his.

SHOULD I HAVE KNOWN:

  • All amenities are currently under construction at the Benson KOA. Bathrooms / pool / laundry / community center. At this point in time, the KOA is a no frills destination - but the management is stellar and will help where needed. FYI: there is a laundromat right up the road (next to Safeway).
