Jamaica Beach RV Resort

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • AMENITIES: Jamaica Beach RV Resort has it all - a huge splash pad, a lazy river, 3 pools, putt-putt, giant chess, outdoor Saturday movie night, and an on- site pizza joint. The community is extremely kid and pet friendly. The laundry facilities and showers are clean. If you feel particularly brave, the pond towards the back of the RV park is home to lots of blue crabs. Kids and I found a You Tube video about how to catch / clean / cook them - delicious!

  • The Beach: We could go from our RV site to feet in the sand, in 60 seconds. The public beach access is right across the street, and you are able to drive your car directly onto the beach.

  • Pleasure Pier: Kids looked forward to this boardwalk carnival all week. NOTE: it’s only open on weekends (weather permitting). Expense aside, the rides were legit. Also, if you decide to eat at Bubba Gump, put your name on the list 2 hours BEFORE you’d like to sit down. It’s the most popular restaurant in the area - for the beautiful rooftop scenery.

  • Moody Gardens: As you drive into Galveston, you can’t miss the three pyramid looking buildings across the bay. An aquarium, a history museum and a rainforest. We only had time to hit the rainforest - but the free roaming monkeys and flamingos were absolutely worthwhile.

    DAY TRIP IDEAS:

  • The Woodlands: This stunning community is just North of Houston. As the name suggests, the city is hidden through lush woodlands. If you can make it down to the Woodlands river front - there is a phenomenal steak restaurant called Trulucks - that will not disappoint.

    SHOULD I HAVE KNOWN:

  • Be prepared for lots of rain. The thunderstorms were impressive, but the heavy winds and lightning were intimidating at times. We found out one pop-up camper had actually blown over in a recent storm.
